Anniversary At Burwood

A rocking chair for But wood Hospital's geriatric ward was presented to the matron (Miss B. C. Brankin) and Sister D. Grady to mark the Burwood Country Women’s Institute's twenty-fifth anniversary. Members have taken an interest in the hosEital since the late Mrs L. A. everett started the institute’s Sunshine Circle during the war to provide benefits for soldiers at the hospital. Elderly patients are visited regularly and gifts taken. At the anniversary party, costumed members of the glee circle entertained wtih songs of countries mentioned in the C.W.I. song “Comrades and Friends.” Mrs M. Lilley gave a recitation and members performed a sketch.

The first president, Mrs J. Southward, cut the anniversary cake. Guests welcomed by the president (Mrs N. Kilgour) included Mrs C. D. Newton, of the Dominion executive, Mrs L. M. Kellaway, the federation president, and members of the federation executive.

Mrs Newton presented the year’s trophies. Mrs E. Starr won the cooking and handcraft trophies, and cups for most points and most entries. Mrs M. Pitt was awarded the floral trophy and was runnerup for most entries.
