SHORTAGE OF PAPER
Prediction By Stationer (NZ. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Oct. 21. Unless the Government speedily issues mare import licences, a shortage of fine paper will occur, according to the chairman of Williamson Jeffery, btd., manufacturing stationers, Mr L. C. Nisbet He told shareholders ait the annual meeting o< the company in Dunedin today that the machine being used by N.Z. Forest Products, Etd„ could produce up to 15,000 tons of fine papers in a year, but ait present pnoduatiton of these grades was limited to 7500 tons. The rest of the machine’s capacity was required to meet an apparently unexpected increaise in the demand for kraft and other I industrial papers.
This would , lead to a shortage in fine papers unless the Government speedily issued import licences sufficient to make up the deficiency. Mr Nisbet said that eventually the supply position would be eased by the commencement of supplies from Naw Zealand Paper Mills, Ltd., and by the installation of another machine by N.Z. Forest Products.
