WEEK-END TOURNEY
Few Entries Received Apart from the men's open singles and doubles, sections have drawn poor entries for the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s hard court championships tournament at Labour week-end. Fifteen men have entered for the singles, the same number as last year, and there may be some consolation that there are six in the women's singles, compared with two entries and four eventual players, last year. The women's singles then was played on a round-robin system. Seeded top for the men’s singles is the junior. R. McCutcheon. who was runner-up to P. S. Alexander last year. McCutcheon was ranked third senior in the province at the end of the season. Miss D. Smith, ranked third in the province, Is the topseeded woman. Neither Miss J. Davidson nor Miss S. Rich, ranked ahead of her, have entered. Special singles sections for players not seeded in the open events and B grade sections have not been well supported. Seedings are:— Open Men's Singles (13 entries).— R McCutcheon 1. W. Thoen 2, L. W. Watkina 3. B. J. Aldridge 4. Women’s Singles (4).—Miss D. Smith 1. Mrs P. Leopold 2.
