MENZIES’S PLANS
‘Not Retiring To Lords’
(N.Z. Prefs Assn.—Copyright ) CANBERRA, October 22. The Australian Prime Minister (Sir Robert Menzies) today scoffed at rumours and suggestions that he would retire soon after the next Federal election, on November 30. Speaking at a press conference, Sir Robert Menzies said he had no desire to retire to the House of Lords. “I am feeling pretty well and retirement is not in contemplation at all.” he said.
Sir Robert Menzies said he would make his policy speech a nation-wide television and radio link on November 12— six days after the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Cal well) makes his speech.
He said he would probably make about half a dozen more television appearances during the campaign, and about the same number of short talks over the radio, as well as conducting a vigorous personal campaign of meeting the people. He said the House of Representatives would be dissolved on November 1. Nominations would close on November 8.
