TROTTING Mile End And Legendary For Double At Greymouth

Mile End and Legendary will form a popular combination for the double at Victoria Park tomorrow when the Greymouth Trotting Club will open its inaugural night meeting. Both horses have worthwhile placings to their credit in recent weeks and they look to be close to winning form.

Mile End, which is owned and trained at Methven by L. H. Broom, paced her best race of the season when she finished fourth to Orbiter, Carina Star and Forshy in the Victory Handicap at Forbury Park last Saturday. She paced the 12 furlongs in 3min 13sec, particularly good time for a mare in her class. If she goes as well again tomorrow, she should be untroubled to win.

Strong support is assured for the bracket at Mirubuka, Squire and Talent. Mirubuka has paced some sound races this season and he has been twice placed. However, he was a shade disappointing at Motukarara when he finished eleventh. That might have been but a temporary lapse and he should be much harder to beat in this race. Squire is making a fresh •tart. He raced well recently at trials and should •trip a fit home. Talent has raced prominently in two appearance* this season and he should show up on the trip. It will not surprise if he

races prominently tomorrow. Sirretta, from F. E. Newfield's Templeton team, paced a reasonable race when she finished seventh at Ashburton on October 5. Ute four-year-old. by Adorian from Fightaway, has had three starts so far this season and should be close to her peak. High Hopes has at times paced useful races, but her

form so far this season has not been encouraging. She looks well and could surprise. The other* in the race have little in the way of worthwhile recent form to recom-

mend them, although Officious Piper was a winner at his first start this season. He was eighth at Methvein on September 28 after having every chance. He could have freshened up sufficiently to add interest to the finish. Second Leg Legendary will only have to race as well as she did when she ran Admiral to half a neck at Motukarara on October 12 to win the second leg. the T. E. Coates Handicap. The Morano mare has improved after each race this season and it will be surprising if she fails to win on the trip. Chief Omar will be bracketed with Legendary. He made a fresh start a<t Motukarara and paced a useful race to finish ninth. He should show early improvement.

Vivace is another pacer dose to winning form. She finished second to a speedy pacer in Overnight in the Dominion Handicap on the first night at Forbury Park. At her previous start she was a dose third to Pancho Boy and Lyndhurst in the Seafield Handicap at Ashburton. Those two placings suggest that she will offer most opposition to Legendary. Charlesworth, a winner at Methven and a useful fifth at Ashburton a week later, faded to tenth at Motukarara at his most recent start. He has had a chance to freshen up since then and could make a bold showing. Captain Dee, which has not raced since June 3, will be bracketed with Charlesworth.

Lord Mina was placed twice earlier in the season and he could make a bold showing. At times he ha® shown worth-while form. Rannack Song, Dorian Gray and Nigger Minstrel appeal most of the remainder. The weather has been fine in Greymouth and unless there is unexpected rain, the track will be in splendid order.

Fields, with form, for the doubles races are:—

Cardigan Bay’s Mark

Cardigan Bay will start from 30 yards in the Hannon Memorial at th Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting next Monday, not 36 yards as was shown in the list of acceptances for the race published yesterday.
