Ambassador Arrives
(IV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 20. The new United States Ambassador to New Zealand, Mr Herbert P. Powell, who was formerly a general in the United States Army, arrived with bis wife today in the Oriana to take up his post in Wellington. Mr Powell served in Europe during the Second World War, and visited this country two years ago for the Battle of the Coral Sea observance. He has relinquished his general’s rank for his appointment—bis first in the diplomatic service. Mr and Mrs Powell flew on to Wellington this afternoon.
