Informer Tells About Murders
(N.Z. Press Asm.—Copyright) NEW YORK, October 17. The underworld informer, Joseph Valachi, guarded by police wearing bullet-proof vests, told a grand jury yesterday what he knew about a number of New York murders, United Press International reported. Vatechi provided new information about the shooting in 1959 of the racketeer, Anthony (‘ ‘ Little Augie’ ’) Pisano Carfano, and his blonde girl friend as they salt in the gangster’s luxury convertible near La Guardia Airport. His testimony was cut short this afternoon. “This has been an ordeal for him and he is just not physically able to continue,” the district attorney said. The grand jury will meet again next week.
