E. W. Dempster 7 For 35 (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Oct. 20. The defeat of last year’s champion team, Dunedin by Albion, was the big feature of the opening of senior cricket in Dunedin on Saturday. The outstanding individual performance was returned by the former New Zealand representative, E. W. Dempster, who took seven Carisbrook wickets for 35 runs while leading his North-East Valley side to a first innings win. Matches were played under a new system with a top section of four teams and a second section of six. A Section.—Albion 150 (W. Shirley five for 52) beat Dunedin 127 on the first innings. Kaikorai 166 for five declared beat Grange 152 (N. T. Woods six for 64) and 122 for seven on the first innings. B Section.—University 117 for four declared (B. Crichton 58) and 48 for one beat Kaikorai B 46 and 102 by nine wickets. Old Boys 159 for nine beat Taieri 158 on the first innings. North-East Valley 163 (R. Minifie five for 44) and 103 for four declared beat Carisbrook 124 (E. W. Dempster, seven for 35) and 42 for five on the first innings.
