Good Score By D. McPhail An unbeaten 156 by D. McPhail for Wainui and a hattrick by Peter Haglund for United were the features of the opening round of the Banks Peninsula Cricket Sub-assocla-tlon’s senior competition on Saturday. Scoring was surprisingly high for the opening round and in all but one of the six Innings totals, the score exceeded 200. There were seven individual scores over 50, but the best bowling performance was only four for 43. Scores were:— United 233 tor seven declared (Paul Haglund 71. D. Marshall 56, Peter Haglund 68; L. Lanauze four for 81) beat Kaltuna 155 (D. Turner 24. L. Lanauze 37, N. Allan 46, P. de Pass 28; R. Harris four for 43. Peter Haglund three for 9. including the hat-trick). Little River 286 (K. Howath 40. D. Mason 49, J. Humphries 79. P. Walker 20. W. Hutchinson 20) drew with Le Bons 236 for nine (L. Inwood 30. C. McKay 80. R. Small 40. C. Mclntosh 28 D. O’Donnell 33).
Wainnj 207 for four (D. McPhail 156 not out. D. Southern 22) beat Akaroa 205 (M. Johnson 63, J. Carrodous 40. M. Brown 20).
