PARTY FOR AGED

Entertainment By Red Cross

A small gift and flowers were handed to each of nearly 180 elderly guests as they departed from the spring party organised for them on Tuesday afternoon in Lady Wigram Hall by the good neighbour committee of the North Canterbury centre of the Red Cross Society. The guests were elderly persons served by the “meals-on-wheels service” run by the good neighbour committee. Those unable to attend the party will have their gifts and flowers delivered today with their dinner.

Several Christchurch garden clubs supplied the flowers, and the Fendalton sub-branch of the Red Cross decorated the tables.

After being driven to the party by the voluntary drivers who usually deliver their dinner, the elderly persons were entertained with songs by Mrs P. Hill and recitations by Mrs O. Gee. A happy period of community singing led by Mrs R. I. Lamb •and accompanied by Mrs M. L. Page was enjoyed before afternoon tea was served, and the guests were returned to their homes by the voluntary drivers.
