Ingenious Aids For Business Firms
(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.)
LONDON, October 15. The inteirnaitjonal office equipment show in Paris has the following novelties:— A typewriter with one platen but two keyboards—one which types the alphabet and the other with mathematical signs used in research centres. A self-protesting office safe with electronic detectors that react to shocks and to the slightest rise to temperature. A “presence detector” which, when placed to a room, informs the main office of the presence of any person to that room. A new photo-copying machine which is entirely automatic and said to be sufficiently inexpensive to be available to everyone. A microfilm camera which can film 12,000 documents an hour. An addressing machine which
prints both address and Jetitenheed at a speed of 3600 units an hour. An electronic Japanese printing machine which works on stencils and is simple and inexpensive. An automatic distributor which distributes sheets of paper one by one. A luminous drawing table for architects. A two-colour ball point pen no larger or more expensive than a singlecolour pen. A metal slide rule coloured yellow ‘‘to prevent fatigue.” A telephone for noisy locations. The microphone is attached to the cheek to register voice vibrations. A pneumatic tube for punch cards. A telephone switchboard without switches or telephone wires for small hotels. A machine that will answer telephone calls, record them, and dial telephone numbers automatically. A desk in which the drawers are opened by light pressure.
