Vandalism
Sir, One eymipaithis
Whole-heartedly with Mr Fardell, the general manager of cxiir ci'ty tra-nspoint services about the wilful damage done to the seats in four new buses, presumably by some moronic youngsters; not ™idh of an encouragement
tor someone who is doing his best to provide an efficient pubhc service. In a bus the other day I noticed Shat the back of an apparently new seat had been heavily scared by an inscription, evidently the work of immature hands. K was a metal surface and, crude as it was, the miscreant’s task must have taken quite a time: long enough, one might imagine fcr any adult in the vicinity to have spotted what was going on and have taken some action. Perhaps there were no adults handy; but one cannot help feeling that many adults nowadays are inexplicably reluctant to display any initiative or exert authority when confronted by some Quite inexcusable act of delinquency on the part of the young.—Yours, etc., M.T. October 1«, 1963.
