EXPORTS OF TIMBER
Incentives Held Applicable , (NX. Press Association) MASTERTON. October 15. The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) raid today he believed that legislation now before Parliament “can be used to assist the timber industry to earn substantial overseas funds.” He told the New Zealand Timber Merchente’ Association’s annual conference in Masterton this is a reply to the conference’s telegram of protest aibout the taxation incentive scheme yesterday. Mr Marshall said in a telegram that the provisions of the Land and Income Tax Amenlment Bill No. 2, with regard to tax incentives for forest products, were sufflctenrtly flexible to enable toe
Government to allow forest products within the taxation incentive scheme, where it was clear that such incentive would be conducive to increased exporting.
“It would, however, be cleanly inappropriate, for example, in the case of newsprint,” the telegram raid.
“I fully agree with your confidence in the ability of your industry to earn »übstanttel overseas funds in the future and believe that legislation now before the House can be used to assist you in this respect." The conference also received from the Prime Minister (Mr Holyoake) a reply to its protest telegram. Mr Holyoake said he was placing the federation's representaittons before toe Minister of Finance (Mr Lake).
