ARCHERY AS SPORT
Introduction At Burnside H.S.
Senior gMs of thie Bumside High School can. now take archery as a summer apart. Twelve fifth and sixth farmers are taking lessons.
Introducing archery into the school’s summer sports programme was the idea of the senior mistress, Miss N. D. Clank, wiho found it very papular in schools in the United States wthen she was there as an exchange teacher.
The school approached the Chnistchoncth Aaxahery Club which agreed to assist with instruction. On Monday, the girts received a Lesson from the New Zeafland women’s ardhery champion, Mini D. M. Browne.
Some of the girts have their own equipment, A good bow costs about £4, and arrows about 3s each. The school has bought some equipment and also has some an loan.
The sdhooJ’s art and woodwork departments combined to produce two targets.
Miss dark said yesterday
that strict regulations were eruflarced during archery practices to safeguard the arcbers —and other pupils.
Ardhery was an excellent sport for develoiping good posture tor the girls, she said.
