£5000 Biggest Lottery Grants

(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 16. The biggest grants from lottery profits recently approved by the Recreation and Youth Activities Distribution Committee are £5OOO to each of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association and the Auckland Hockey Association for buildings and facilities.

The grants were announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs (Sir Leon Gotz) today.

The chairman of toe committee (Mr W. A. Stevenson) had advised that 257 applications for assistance were considered at the last meeting, 111 immediate grants amounting to £53,490 and eight conditional grants amounting to £11,950 being approved. The latter would be made when conditions specified by the committee were fulfilled. Among the immediate grants were seven applications conditionally approved

by the Minister of Internal Affairs before the distribution committee wias established, and eight conditionally approved by the committee itself.

The conditions having been fulfilled by the applicants, the grants had been confirmed, said the Minister. Of the applications, 138 were declined because they did not fit into the category, or deferred because twothirds of the cost of toe project had not been raised locally. Grants to organisations in “The Press” district are:—

Grants approved by the Minister of Internal Affairs. — Northdown-Te Rangi Scout Group Committee (Timaru) £200; Timaru Rotary Club (for skating rink) £1000; Barrys Bay Hall Board (Akaroa) £250. Grants for immediate payment:— Scout Groups.—Pine Hill (Timaru) £3OO. Tennis Clubs.—lkawai (Waimate) £250; Duntroon £l5O. Swimming (filtration, pools and buildings).—Blenheim Amateur Swimming Club £500; Waimairi Surf Club £5OO. Rowing Clubs (buildings and facilities) .—Canterbury £5OO. Community Centres (buildings).—Brooklands £250. Domain Boards (grounds, buildings and facilities).— Lincoln Park £l5O. Halls (repairs and additions) .—Marshlands (Blenheim) £250; Riverlands (Blenheim) £250; Spring Grove (Nelson) £150; Lyndhurst (Ashburton) £100; R.SA.. (Paparua) £500; Albury £100; Hinds £400; St. Andrews £ 375; Totara (Oamaru) £lOO.
