ARTHUR’S PASS STATION
Board Pleased By Design
The announcement by the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) that the Arthur’s Pass railway station, recently destroyed by fire, would be rebuilt in alpine style was very happily received by the Arthur’s Paes National Park Board, said the secretary of the board (Mr D. C. Morse). Mr McAlpine made the announcement at the opening of the new Lyttelton station on Monday. “We are hoping that eventually the village will be entirely in alpine style,’’ Mr Morse said.
“Wa were very pleased when the Canterbury Education Board consulted with us about the design of the new Arthur’s Pass school now in building, which is also in keeping with its surroundings. We were glad, too, to see the plans of Mr H. Botany's new tearooms before he went ahead with building
them—although in fact bis design was already very suitable.
"As the old tin eottages are gradually removed, wehope to see the whole village come to follow the same pattern, although we shall not
burry anyone. ■ “We hope that when a new store is eventually built to replace the present one, it also will blend in with other buildings.”
