Canadian Order For N.Z. Lamb After Barbecue
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 16. “As a result of a barbecue in Vancouver organised for the mission’s visit by the New Zealand Meat Board, an order has been secured for 5000 cases at the special lamb pack,” reports Sir Leonard Wright, leader of the New Zealand trade mission, now
in Los Angeles, in a message received today by the Minis-
ter of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall). ‘‘Firm orders for several lines have been obtained by mission members from Portland and Seattle, and prospects are most encouraging in both areas, each with a considerably bigger population than the North Island,” said the message.
Providing packaging, brands and sales promotion could be
arranged, one line could develop into trade worth a million dollars a year, said Sir Leonard Wright. A trial order worth 20,000 dollars had been secured by New Zealand Wool Pack and Textiles, Ltd., of Foxton, and thia could develop into business possibly limited only by the mill's production capacity, said Sir Leonard Wright. “We have cabled a definite
inquiry for 1000 tons of canned peas, and await a reply. Burns and Ferral and Rickstan Industries have appointed distributors and both expect steady business.
“Advertising people here are amazed at the free publicity our mission has had. They estimate that to have bought this would have cost us in excess of £100.000,” Sir Leonard Wright said.
