Precarious, Tom Foolum Win Waverley Legs

WAVERLEY. October 15. Hie Bulla-owned and trained Precarious Improved on her last start fourth and scored her first success to open company when she overcame a check to the running and finished strongly on the rails to win the Waverley Cup by half a length today. Owned by Mr N. H. Amon and trained for him by W. L. Aitken, Precarious won the first leg of the Waverley Racing Club's T.AJB. double from the northerner. Dashing Star, which staged a big run round the outer from near the rear »t the half-m Ce. Foxdonna finished on well for a creditable third.
Tom Foolum ran right up to his smart track trials when he outsprinted the fancied Trentham candidate, Donald Dtonie. to the Brewer Memorial Handicap. second leg of the main double. With Precarious he paid <139 12s fid for <l. W. D. Skelton had Tom Foolum quickly to front and he never surrendered his lead. He drew away from hla challengers in the straight to score by two lengths from Donald Dtonie with a similar margin back to Supreme Courage. The weedier was fine and the track fast

Press Association) WANGANUI, October 16. Trim Laddie was a late scratching from the Waverley Oup at Waverley today. The horse got down in the float on the way to the meeting and sustained injuries which made it unfit to race. The horse was examined on the roadside by a passing veterinary surgeon. In view of the circumstances the committee decided to take no action against the connexions of the horse.
Doradeb (L. J. Hodren > had to be eased five furlongs from the finish of the Waverley Cup when a gap for which it was going dosed. Hodren was questioned about his failure to draw the whip in the straight when in a handy position. He said that when he had ridden toe mare before she had run in quickly under the whip, and added toot the trainer, T. H. Knowles,- had reminded han at this tendency before the race. The explanation was accepted.
