LAWN TENNIS Play-Off For Eighth Senior Men’s Team

The same teams as last season, Barrington and Beckenham, will play off for the eighth place, in the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association's senior men's competition this season

Ten entries for the grade, which is restricted to eight, were received by the competitions committee it was decided that South Brighton, which was in second grade last season, would be given a chance to play into the senior reserve grade and that the other two play off. Last season Barrington won the play off.

Last season's teams which have been accepted are Cashmere, University. Wooteton. United. Edgeware. Elmwood and North Linwood The same five entries as last season were received for the senior women’s grade. They are Cashmere. United, Fendoiton. Shirley and Avonside.

The senior reserve grade, which is also restricted to e.ght, gained an entry of 10 to which has been added South Brighton and the teajyi which loses the play-off for the senior men’s grade. Arrangements will be made for an elimination contest to find the eight. The teams accepted are Cashmere Linwood Avenue, Fendalton, Edgeware and North Linwood. University, United. Spreydon. Elmwood. Beckenham and South Brighton will plav elimination games. Thirteen entries for the first rn.xed A grade have been reduced to eight. Seven of last season's A grade have been included plus the winner of last season’s first mixed B grade. Redcliffk The first mixed B grade, for which there was one entry, h»« been built up to eight. University. bottom in the A grade last season, has been relegated and Elmwood and St Paul’s have been promoted from second grade mixed The teams for these grade* are: —First A: Beckenham., Cashmere. Wooteton. Barrington. St Albans. Elmwood.! Redciiffk. Avonride First B: Sorevdon. Elmwood. St. Paul’s. Edgeware. Un’vereity. Fendalton. New Brighton, i North Linwood.

The second grade mixed, which will begin next Saturday, has 11 entries which have been drawn as follows:—South Brighton v. South Christchurch, Addington Catholic v. Elmwood, Spreydon v. Fendalton, Shirley v. Waimairi, Avonside v. North Brighton. Redcliffs a bye. Opawa. Barrington, Linwood Avenue. South Christchurch, St Albans. Redcliffs and Avonside are the entries for the president’s grade. The second men's grade will have 12 teams, Cashmere, Linwood Avenue, St. Ninian’s, Shirley, Avonside, North Linwood and the six teams eliminated from the senior reserve grade.
