Opium Found In Ship
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 15.
A quantity of opium and a number of transistor radios were discovered by Customs officers during a raid on the freighter Van Neck, berthed at Pipitee wharf yesterday. The Van Neck, which is in the regular trade between New Zealand and the Far East, is manned by Dutch officers and a Chinese crew The ship was searched from stem to stern, and the opium was discovered concealed in one of the fire extinguishers.
The transistors were discovered above airpipes in one of the crew alleyways.
