TRAINING OF LIBRARIANS

Studentship Scheme (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 16. The establishment of library studentships, simitar to the post-primary teachers’ studentship scheme already operating, was announced today by the Minister of Education (Mr Tennent). “This scheme is designed to help young people who; wish to become professional librarians to take the necessary university degree. Up to six may be awarded each year. It will help overcame a shortage of librarians in this country by helping students through the long training period. “Rapidly-expanding library services, essential to the education system, represent substantial financial investment that is increasing each year to meet the growing need,” said Mr Tennent. He added that library studentships would help to open uip this career to young people and help them make the mast of that investment.
