HIGH PERFORMANCE ROVER
A HIGH performance fourcylinder car has been announced by the Rover company of Britain. It is to be called the Rover 2000.

I turns of the wheel from lock to lock. The wheels are Min. Dunlop disc brakes are fitted all round, they are 1 servo-assisted and mounted inboard at the rear. The handbrake operates separate calipers on the rear brakes, and all are self-adjusting. The electrical system is 12volt and dual headlights are used. A park switch, similar to that used on the Mark 111 Fords, is fitted in the lighting circuit.
The new Rover’s engine has a single overhead camshaft a capacity of 1978 c.c., and produces about 90 b.h.p. (net) at 5000 r.p.m. A single carburettor is fed by a mechanical pump, and maximum r.p.m. is quoted as 6000. The cylinder block is of cast iron and the cylinder head is of aluminium, with a compression ratio of 9 to 1. Transmission is through a diaphragm-spring clutch to a four-speed all-synchromesh gearbox. Front suspension is independent, and the rear suspension is a De Dion type with universally - jointed drive
A reversing lamp is standard equipment, as are three interior lights and a boot light There are warning lights on the dash for ignition, oil pressure, cold start, main beam, brake fluid level and handbrake, and indicators. There is also a headlamp
flasher, cigarette lighter and electric clock. The wipers are electrically operated and combined with an electric screenwasher. There is a fresh-air heater with a twospeed booster. The seating is trimmed in leather and the individual front seats are fully adjustable to a fully reclining position. Safety belt anchorages are built in.
The body has panels which can be easily changed in the event of accidental damage, and the boot lid and bonnet are of aluminium alloy. All doors are hinged at the forward edge and have zerotorque locks. All exterior bright work is stainless ateel with the exception of the radiator grille, which is aluminium.
The factory quotes no performance figures, but highspeed tyres are a standard fitting. The car is 14ft 10 Vi in long, and Mt 6*6 in wide. The turning circle is only 31ft, and ground clearance is given as B.sin.
