FIORDLAND SAFARIS
Assessment By
Aero Club
Flights to Fiordland to assess the possibility of hunting safaris are being investigated by the Canterbury Aero Club. Last week-end a Piper Super Cub, piloted by Mr B. Anthill, made a flight in the area with Mr D. Owen and Mr W. Morrison, an executive member of the club. Planned as an observation flight, it enabled the men to get an idea of the country and to see what it could offer tourists either in the way of scenic flights or, more particularly, for hunting trips. The club is believed to have such operations in mind and may enlist the co-operation of such other companies as Southern Scenic Air Services, the Mount Cook Air Services, or Tourist Air Travel. With the only landing strip at Milford, it is expected that an amphibian aircraft would be needed for deeper penetration into Fiordland. Greater study of the operations have yet to be made by the club’s executive.
