MINISTER’S HINT

(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Oct. 10.

Although the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Marshall) told Parliament tonight no decision had been made on the subject of further assistance to S.P.A.N.Z., a hint that the airline would continue in existence for some time was given by the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr McAlpine).

He said: “I think we should give them the opportunity in the next few months to show whether they can make it a profitable operation or not.” Mr McAlpine said the airline had been unable to get the £156.000 it needed to go to allotment until it got some overseas Australian capital.

He was sure the Australians would sell their interest to anybody who wanted to buy it.
