Asia Minor Picked For Motukarara

Asia Minor looks favourably placed on the front in the Halswell Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s annual meeting tomorrow. If he trots as well as he has lately from aw’kward marks in big fields, he should be a sound win prospect.

Asia Minor finished fifth at Methven and third at Ashburton at his two most recent •tarts In both races he met trouble in the running and made up a W of ground to finish cloee up. He should be close to bis peek now and only bad luck will stop him taking a prominent part in the finish of this race. Playway impressed when at her first start as a trotter she

ran out a decisive winner at Ashburton last week. If she trot* a« solidly again, her chanced must be highly rated. King Charlee was a decisive winner at Metbven, but failed at Ashburton and again at triria on Tuesday. He is much better than those performances suggest and could be prominent. Kuyaway's second to Playway at Ashburton last week suggested an early win. This unsound mare is more capable than most in the .race. Jeanna, which will be bracketed with Alvean, Quito •nd Castleton’s Gift are others expected to show to advantage The double will be run on the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club Handicap and the Paparua Handicap, Pancho Boy and Maggie Spangler forming a likely combination. Fair weather id forecast and

the track should be Srm and fast Fields, with form, for the doubles races are:—

Brackets: Admiral and Mountain Song: Aufleem and Fury River; Maggie Spangler and El Adem; Chief Omar and Legendary.

Johnny Thunder appeal most ot the others on the front, but they will receive determined opposition from Peebles and Flying Blue, both of which are on 12 yards. Peebles was runner-up to Vanderford in the Methven Cup, and he raced well enough at the Ashburton trials to suggest that he will not be without a chance. Flying Blue, too, has shown that he is regaining his consistent form of last season. The firm track at Forbury Park will suit him and it wild not surprise if he wins. Fine weather is forecast and the track will be firm and fest. Fields, with form, for the doubles races, are:—
