HOARDINGS BANNED

Land At Tunnel Portals

No advertising hoardings will be permitted on land controlled by the Ohrist-church-Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority.

This decision was made yesterday when the authority received advice on the matter from Mr D. B. Dallas, the District Commissioner of Works.

Mr Dallas said the National Roads Board did not permit the display of advertising within highway reserves, and in fact maintained very strict control on all signs on State highways. Advertisements on private property alongside highways were controlled by local authorities. Mr Dallas said he had been instructed to ask the authority not t<> allow advertising on the Ferry road toll plaza road section, which was built at the expense of the National Roads Fund.
