ASSOCIATION LOST £650
Kickers Game In City
The Canterbury Football Association suffered a loss of approximately £650 on the match between the South Island and the Los Angeles Kickers, at English Park last Saturday, the management committee of the association was told at its meeting last evening.
This figure was estimated after a report of the gatetakings had been given by the treasurer, Mr W. R. Dixon. “Not a bad day’s effort, was it?” said a member of the committee. Mr Dixon said he did not see how, under any circumstances, the association could entertain any more visiting teams “We had good weather, a good side, everything in our favour.” Mr E. Williams, the secretary, said that if the public had been aware what a good side the Kickers were a greater attendance would have resulted. Interest should still be shown in overseas teams, he said. The standard of play in the province could not be improved unless better sides were played. Mr Gottermeyer said it was a bad time of the year to get a good crowd. It was inbetween seasons and a lot of men had jobs to do at home. “I don’t agree with that,” said Mr Williams. “It’s always too late, too early, too cold, too wet or too something," he said. No-one, not even the committee, expected as good a display as the Kickers provided, he added.
