PRODUCTION OF D.D.T.

Atmosphere Tests

Daily atmosphere checks were being made at the Hornby fertiliser factory in the interests of worker’s health, the business manager of Kempthorne Prosser’s chemical works, Mr G. A. Claridge, said yesterday. Reports of the atmosphere sampling were being made freely available to the Canterbury Freezing Workers' Union.

“The men are doing D D.T. wet mix,” he said. “They suspended dry mixing some time ago.” Asked if the D.D.T. content in the atmosphere of the factory was showing a progressive decline as the daily samples continued, Mr Claridge said: “I would say they have Improved. This subject is between the union and ourselves at this stage. All the necessary precautions are being taken."
