Minister Of Science
(Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, October 1. The Government intended to appoint a minister of science, the Minister in charge of Scientific and Industrial Research (Mr Tennent) told Parliament tonight.
During toe second reading debate on the National Research Advisory Council Bill he said the appointment would be made in line with the recommendation of toe Royal Commission on State Services.
Discussing the bill, Mr Tennent said some scientists had advocated the setting up of a special commission of inquiry into scientific research; but this would have delayed advances in the coordination of research for two years or so.
