TELEPHONE FAULTS
Service Extended
In City
Tlie Christchurch Post Office is leading other offices in the country in its latest improvement to the telephone fault service. The regular week-day “on call” hours of the fault department have been extended bv four hours from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.. compared with the old hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fault service staff has been increased from 20 to 25 to cope with the extra duty. Telephones in Christchurch now number about 57,000. and about 630 more are being installed each month. Since March 31 this year more than 5000 new connexions have been made.
The emergency fault service is not affected by the new hours. In such cases as a sick person’s telephone breaking down, or a doctor's telephone, technicians will attend at anytime.
