Whitebait Supplies Stop
Whitebait catches, which were good for the first few days of the season, which opened on September 1. have stopped in Canterbury and on the West Coast. For the second day none will be available for auction this morning.
Yesterday retailers were selling whitebait for 4s 3d to 4s 6d a quarter-pound.
Meat Prices.— Uncontrolled exports to France and late and costly imports from New Zealand had caused rising prices and a shortage of lamb and meat in Britain, according to Mr E. E. Buttling, president of the London Retail Meat Traders’ Association.—London, September 12.
