SCULPTURE EXHIBITION

French Bronzes

Coming

Many famous artists are represented in a big exhibition of French sculpture from 1880 to 1920 which will be shown in the Canterbury Society of Arts’ Durham street gallery from approximately November 30 to December 13.

The exhibition, which is sponsored by the Arts Advisory Council, consists of 40 bronzes by Rodin, Degas. Bourdelle, Maillol, Renoir. Archipenko, Laurens, Matisse. Duchamp-Villon and others, on loan from museums and private collections in Paris and London.

It will be the most valuable and one of the largest exhibitions of sculpture to come to New Zealand. Die exhibition was offered to the McDougall Art Gallery, the gallery’s director (Mr W. S. Baverstock) said on Tuesday, but the period for which is was available was too close to two other shows—a van der Velden exhibition and a • collection of reproductions of Dutch landI scape paintings—and more i notice was needed for such a big exhibition near the end of the year.
