CHURCH-GOING STUDENTS

“Only 1000 Out Of 3000”

"The theological trend of today is that the church be in the wwld, not in its own gheito,” said the University of Canterbury chaplain (Mr D. Wilson), speaking to the Christchurch Presbytery. Mr Wilson told the Presbytery that probably only 1000 out of 3000 students art the university were regular church-goers. He advised the ministers to show their students and staff members that wthere they live and work is where they should be witnessing. Mr Wilson said that a student welfare conference had been organised art the university this year. This brought together all those concerned with student welfare for the first time. He said that the wardens of the halls of residence had never met to discuss the problems of halls of residence until it was suggested by the conference. The orientation service art the university was attended by more than 600 students, said Mr Wilson. This year the Training College service was held in the college and thus became part of the Training College itself.
