LIBERATING PARTRIDGES

Aim Of 1200 Birds A Year

Preparations were being made to extend facilities for rearing partridges, and in addition to the construction of ponds, negotiations were in hand to purchase from Mr S. W. Broughton a paddock of six acres at Greenpark, members were told at last evening’s meeting of the North Canterbury Acclimatisatton Society. ’ The society aimed to liberate 600 partridges this year and up to 1200 each year thereafter, the birds to be distributed widely over suitable areas in the society’s district. All back country lakes in the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society’s district will open on the first Saturday in November this season, instead of on November 1, as in previous years. The society was advised by the Marine Department that aproval for this had been giv Lake Lyndon ill be opened to all types of fishing in the coming season, and until further notice, the society was told. Notices giving the name of the lake and the type of fishing permitted had been prepared and were being erected at all back country lakes in the district.
