New School At Invercargill
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 9. Another past - primary school will be built In Invercargill to open in February 1966. The Minister of Education ‘ (Mr Teninenit) announced today Government approval for the preparation of plans and a firm estimate of cost. “To cater for an estimated roll of 375 pupils, the coeducational school will have 14 classrooms with provision for woodwork, homecraft, typing and art and craft sections as well as an assembly hall block,” Mr Tennent said. Mr Tennent said Invercargill showed at the 1961 census, the biggest percentage inter-censal increase in papulation in the South Island. The increase was 17 per cent compared with the Southland increase of nearly 10 per cent but the school population during the period 1959-63 rose by 42 per cent.
