DATES OF CIRCUIT

Proposed Change

The professional golf circuit now’ being played in New Zealand may take place in a summer month in future. An effort to effect a change is to be made, according to the prominent Australian player, P. W. Thomson.

Thomson said in Christchurch at the week-end that if the New Zealand circuit was in February it would fit well into the pattern of world-wide professional circuits.

He is firmly in favour of the change and spectators who have had to endure winter weather at Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch would heartily agree with him.

New Zealand is the only country in the world where golf is regarded as a winter game. There have been administrators in many parts of New Zealand who have advocated a change and to some extent programme dates have been altered to bring New Zealand more Into line with overseas practice. The professional tournaments have aroused considerable interest in the last fortnight. There are many who feel that if they were played in warm weather, with many New Zealanders still on their summer holidays, public support would be even greater.
