OVERSEAS FUNDS

Statement Misleading (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, August 27. Statements about the position of overseas funds made by the president of the Public Service Association. Mr E. J Batt were misleading and incorrect, the Minister of Finance (Mr Lake) said in Parliament this afternoon. Mr Lake was asked by Mr D. J. Carter (Govt, Raglan) if it would be correct to say that Mr Batt was misleading members of the association when he said in his presidential address that New Zealand’s overseas funds were no higher than they were a year ago. The statement attributed to Mr Batt was not only misleading but quite incorrect, said Mr Lake ‘On August 15. 1962, overseas funds stood at £7O 6 million and on August 14. 1963 at £BBl million—an increase of £17.5 million ”
