Fighting Competition

(New Zealand Press Association)

AUCKLAND, August 25. At the beginning of winter, the minister of Knox Presbyterian Church, Parnell, the Rev. R. G. S. Chambers, decided to hold his Sunday evening services at 4.30 p.m. instead of ■ 7 p.m. He arranged an earlier service because television

was keeping the younger members of the congregation at home in the evenings. Also he felt that the older members of his congregation disliked going out on cold, dark nights. “Since starting the afternoon services,” said Mr Chambers, "attendances have increased about fourfold.”
