NEW FRY-PAN COOKERY

Demonstration By Mrs L R. Smith It used to be sand that slapped-up. gpeasy fryingpan meals were the cause of half the divorces. But it is most unlikely that a modern electric frying pan would ever be cited as the cause of domestic (or gastric) disturbances. In a demonstration to the Women’s Electrical Association last evening, Mrs L R. Smith showed how to make pikelets, omelettes, toasted sandwiches, and meat balls in tomato and onion sauce, and how to roast a forequarter of hogget. Cooked by a thermostatic-ailCy-controlled element the fried food was lifted from the pan dry and evenly browned. With the pan at the right temperature, given in a booklet, sold with the pan, the little fat used for frying is sealed and does not get into the food, Mrs Smith also explained how a roast of meat and vegetables for nine could be cooked, and how to do casseroles, cakes, pastry, pies, and scones in it The president (Mrs A. Sdbumacher) presided at the demonstration, which was held as the association’s monthly meeting. In the last 49 years 3300 youth hostels have been established in Europe. The largest is at Heidelberg; it has 580 beds.
