THE MOUNT COOK YOUTH HOSTEL, recently much enlarged by extensive additions to the lounge (right), which formerly ended flush with the wings. (The other wing is hidden by the lounge.) From inside the lounge there is an excellent view towards Mount Cook through the large front windows. The shell of the extensions was built by contract, and the finishing done by the voluntary labour of members of the South Canterbury branch of the Youth Hostels Association of New Zealand. The branch owns the hostel.
