The score of 23-5 adequately showed Hornby's superiority The winning side was far too well drilled tor Marist. Marist won possession in the scrums, but repeatedly threw away the ball by bad passing and hand-
h 7he match was not a partictilarlv enterprising one. Both back-lines looked dangerous at times, but Hornby’s was able to finish off Its moves. There was very little difference between the two packs of forwards, but the ability of the winning pack to »axTp up the loose bell gave tliem an advantage. The Marist tackling was poor—at least tour of Hornby's tries were scored because of this fault. M. L. Cooke lead the Hornby side as well as ever. He received good support from D. Nieman and D Condlck The best of the Marist forwards were M. Mohi and P McQuinn. The best back on the ground was J. Bray, who made several strong runs and always held the hard-running H. Nepia in check. None of the MariM backs showed any penetration Tries for Hornby were scored by P. Skerton. J. Bray (2). Nieman, and B. Langton. I. Drayton kicked three penalty goals and one conversion. J. Keremeta scored tor Marist and B. Curtain kicked a penalty goal. The referee was Mr K Henry.
