Food Defence
Sir,—A group of technical experts Should be set up by the Government to study what can be done for a peace - developing world. When George P. PoUibt wrote his famous book, “Britain Can Feed Herself,” his most amazing part concerned what Britain could do with dried skim milk. Yet in this dairy country we don’t realise the amazing value of skim milk; in fact we supply the greater part of its production to animate. If we offered a mere £5,000,000 worth to Australia per annum as a gift, it could start a very big export business. Assume that Australia brought Chinese, Indians, Pakistanis, etc., to dig canals through its very lengthy centre, the rainfall of Australia could be very much improved by evaporation from deeply located salt water areas. If the Asians were paid a big part in skim milk, they could alter the world.—Yours, etc., L. C. WALKER August 23, 1963.
