Sumner Taxi Service
Sir, —At the beginning of this year Sumner had a firstclass, courteous operator who was so popular that be was literally run off his feet. Just about Christmas time he had to take 24 hours off to get in a decent period of sleep. His taxi was in great demand and residents were told that there was far too much work offering for one licence but not enough for two. This man said he regretted transferring to Christchurch but he really could not cope with the work offering. A previous man openly skited he was making £lBOO a year, and the Sumner district has grown considerably in the meantime. Personally, I do not need to use a taxi, but have splendid eyesight, live on a busy street, and used to see the taxi very very frequently. People of Sumner should make their voices heard and secure their rights.—Yours, etc., RESIDENT. August 20, 1963.
