DEBATE IN CITY NEXT WEEK
Australian University Team’s Visit The Australian Universities’ debating team, which won the Tasman Cup in the debate with New Zealand Universities at Dunedin on Tuesday, will arrive in Christchurch on Sunday after a tour of the southern lakes, Milford Sound, Benmore, and Mount Cook. On Monday night at the Canterbury Museum lecture theatre they will meet a University of Canterbury team whose members represented New Zealand in the Dunedin debate. The Australians are Messrs I. A. Lawry (Sydney), J. R Walsh (Sydney), and T. Coulthard (Newcastle). Their opponents are Messrs D. Page, L. Moore, and J. Bluck, and the judges Messrs H. P. Smith, E. P. Wills, and A. C. Brassington. The subject for debate in Christchurch is “that nationalism is incompatible with civilised progress.” The Australian team will leave for Picton by road on Tuesday, crossing to Wellington by the Aramoana. After the final debate of the tour, against Victoria University, they will leave for Sydney on August 30.
