Deep-Sea Diving
A new submarine-like manned diving machine for oceanographic research at depths of about lj miles has been built by the Leiningrad Designing Institute of the Russian fishing fleet. It carries two observers who are able to observe by means of external lighting, take flash photographs, and collect samples. Water-samples are taken through a special tube, while mechanical hands operated by the observers collect sediments or other materials from the sea-bed.
