Soccer 10 PLAYERS WARNED
“Gave Us The Works” Ten members of the Canterbury under-18 soccer team were warned and two had their names taken bv the referee during the Junior National Cun final at Auckland last Saturday an Indignant Mr R. Storer told the management committee of the Canterbury Football Association last night. Mr Storer, who was the manager of the Canterbury team, said the outside-right was the only player in the side who was not cautioned during the game. I don t know how he escaped ** he said bitterly One Canterbury player M. Thompson, had his name taken for calling out "Kick the ball Ken as tile ball rolled to. wards a team-mate, K Griffiths said Mr Storer. The goalkeeper <R. R. J. Storer) also had his name taken for telling a plover to move out of the goal area Mr Storer said the referee was a former Canterbury man a . former Technical man—but he certainly gave us the works’’ The chairman (Mr J. Smith) said the committee should wait until the cautions were received by the Canterbury body through the New Zealand association and then the matter could be discussed. Hete for Christinas The professional coach to the Canterbury FA Mr R C Carter. his wife and family, should be tn Christchurch for Christmas. Members of the association's management were told by Mr K. De Maus, the N.Z.F A. representative in England that Carter and his family had been reserved accommodation on the Northern Star, due to sail on October 30. The reservation was subiect to the coach presenting a satisfactory employment report from his present employers. Reason Sought The committee deferred acceptance of the resignation of Mr S. C. Ovenden from the committee, pending an explanation of his action. Mr Ovenden's letter of resignation gave no reason for the move. Four members of the management committee were appointed selectors of the teams for the international contest. They were Messrs R. Storer (New Zealand). N. R. Dixon i England I. J. McGuigan (Scotland) and F. S. E. Neate (Continental)
