DRIVER SENT TO GAOL
“Very Serious Case” (N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, Aug. 19. “This is a very serious case of drunken driving causing death, and failing to stop after an accident,” said Mr W. A. Harlow, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court at Napier today. Before the court was Charles Hart, aged 34, a butcher, of Clive. He pleaded guilty to a charge of causing death while driving under the influence of drink, and not guilty to a charge of failing to stop after an accident. Hart was convicted and sentenced to three months’ gaol on each charge, the terms to be concurrent, and disqualified from driving for three years. The prosecution said Hart’s car struck and killed a man being interviewed by two traffic officers near a parked truck. One of the traffic officers was also struck and suffered minor injuries.
