BOARD'S NEW VEHICLES
Van, Lorry And Buses Two ancillary vehicles owned by the Christchurch Transport Board, one 24 years old and the other 22 years old, will be replaced at a cost of £1977, it was decided at a meeting of the board yesterday. The chairman of the finance committee (Mr E. J Bradshaw), in presenting his report, said the vehicles were used for stores and outside work, but had reached the stage where a considerable amount of money would have to be spent on them. He said the finance committee recommended the vehicles be replaced with one van and one flat-top lorry. In the same report the board was told the first of some new buses on order would be delivered at the end of this month, and the rest of the order would be delivered at the rate of three buses a month. The general manager (Mr J. F. Fardel!) said the first new bus would probably be put on public display when it arrived. The design of the new buses had been kept as near as possible to that of the present vehicles, he said.
