Exchange Rates
The £ eased slightly in relation to the United States and Canadian dollars, several European currencies, the Hong Kong dollar and the Japenese yen last week, but was firmer against Scandinavian currencies. Altered telegraphic transfer exchange rates advised yesterday by the Bank of New South Wales: New Zealand on:— New York: buying. 2.7954 dollars (against 2.7983 dollars the week before); selling, 2.7633 dollars (2.7648). Canada: 3.0294 dollars (3.0297); 2.9907 dollars (2.W10). Denmark: 19.44 crowns (19.43); 19.02 crowns (same). Hong Kong: 16.127 dollars (16161); 15.690 dollars (15.723). Italy: 1745 lire (1746); 1708 Mre (1709). Japan: 1018 yen (1000): 996 yen (997). Netherlands: 1014 guilders (10.15): 9.92 guilders (9.93). Norway: 20.10 crowns (same); 19 68 (19.67). Spain: no buying quote: selling. 164 60 petesas (164.80). Sweden: 14.60 crowns (same); 14 ?8 crowns (14.28) Switzerland: 12.14 francs (same); 11.87 francs (11.88). West Germany: DM 11.20 (11.31); DM 10.96 (10.97). Weeks Field.—The recommended final ordinary dividend of Weeks Field. Ltd., Christ-church-based printer, is 6 per cent., making 9 per cent, for the year, against 8 per cent, last year. Final preference dividend Is 2J per cent., making 5 per cent, for the year. Ex dividend date is September 20—(P.A.) Hume Industries (N.Z.). —The final dividends for the year of Hume Industries (N.Z.), Ltd., Wellington general engineer and concrete and steel pipe manufacturer, are 6 per cent ordinary, making a steady 10 per cent for the year, and 2J per cent on the 5 per cent cumulative preference shares; payable September 27.—(P.A.) Skellertip Dividend. Skellerup Industries. Ltd., Christchurch rubber goods manufacturer. advises an interim dividend of 2J per cent on 5 per cent cumulative preference shares: payable October 1. ex dividend September 17.—(PA.) A.G.C. Dividend.—Australian Guarantee Corporation, Ltd., has declared a final dividend of 11 per cept.. making a steady 15 per cent, for the year to Tune 30.
Overdrafts Rise. Trading bank advances and discounts rose to £199 2m in the week to July 31. This compares with £l9B 6m the week before £196 2m a month before and £lB9 9m a year before.
