National Association Shows Loss of £1900

The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has shown a loss of £1987 Ils 2d for the year ended May 31, 1963 The annual report which will be presented to the association's annual meeting in Wellington on August 29 says •he excess of expenditure in connexion with the normal administration costs over income available for this purpose was £3BB Os 4d and to this must be added the loss on overseas tours of £lBBO 10s Id, the loss on the New Zealand junior championships of £65 2s 8d and the loss on the tour of New Zealand by a team of English players of £364 4s 5d To offset these to some extent are profits on the New Zealand championships and the professional tour and a small amount carried forward from sponsored coaching during the previous season. However, the report says the loss on the tour by the English team could have been

obviated by charging individual associations more than was the case but the loss incurred by the national association has meant a greater financial success of the tour as far as some individual associations are concerned. • The overseas tour account for the year incorporates both the 1962 and 1963 overseas tours whereas normally tours are not finalised in the year In which they occur. “The year's accounts therefore include two complete tours while including only one year’s income relative to overseas tours —the 3d a member from annual subscriptions and the grant by B.P. New Zealand, Ltd., for the sponsorship of the New Zealand championships. The membership of the association has risen by 56 to 35,487. The Auckland figure is up 898 to 7267, the Wellington membership has increased by five to 3632. but Canterbury returns are down 575 to 5526.
